Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Showdown With the Dodgers
Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, the star outfielder delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, guiding the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now connected for 23 total post-season home runs, making him third on the list behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another player anywhere that I'd choose in that spot other than him with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.
Wilson said "there's no question that it hurts" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but praised their work in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we had to come out on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
Toronto's team claimed the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
