The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with their own fears and motivations. These souls can take over at will, releasing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though other scenes show the protagonist navigating a abandoned chapel.

A World of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can activate something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul emerges at any given moment. However, these souls will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four souls asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity standing might be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
