Electronic Arts Tackles The Sims 4 Corrupted Saves: "We Promise Openness"
Recently, players of the popular life simulation game have encountered significant issues with corrupted save files following a recent patch. In response, the developer revealed a comprehensive plan in the fall, outlining the approach to resolve the most pressing glitches.
Identifying the Underlying Issues
After extensive testing, the team identified two main culprits for the corrupted saves. First, temporary files—critical for game operations—are vanishing unexpectedly, resulting in total save file loss. Secondly, a separate issue with data tied to specific lots is stuck players in infinite loading loops, possibly caused by certain build behaviors like super-stuffed lots, with or without mods.
Short-Term Fixes and Precautions
To combat the problem of excessively built-up properties, the next update will temporarily disable the Residential Rental Unit cheat. This feature allows players to add unlimited rental properties on home plots.
"We’re removing the Residential Rental Unit cheat in an upcoming update, as a preventative step as more comprehensive solutions are developed," the company stated. "While we take player agency highly, out of an abundance of caution, this action is needed to mitigate its potential risk."
Nevertheless, many users are facing the endless loading and corrupted data without using the command, prompting ongoing investigation into excessive save file size and associated problems.
Advanced Tools and Future Plans
In a recent update, the developer shared that they have created a new Python-based tool that helps in pulling, analyzing, and summarizing player save information provided by the player base.
