Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
